Glen Keane

Glen Keane, born on April 13, 1954, in Paradise Valley, Arizona, is a legendary animator and a 38-year veteran of Walt Disney Feature Animation, where he trained under Walt Disney’s Nine Old Men. The son of cartoonist Bil Keane, creator of “Family Circus”, he developed his passion for drawing early on and later studied at the California Institute of the Arts.

Joining Disney in 1974, he was mentored by masters such as Eric Larson, Frank Thomas, and Ollie Johnston. Over his career, he brought to life some of Disney’s most iconic characters, including Ariel in “The Little Mermaid”, the Beast in “Beauty and the Beast”, “Aladdin”, “Pocahontas”, “Tarzan”, and Rapunzel in “Tangled”, where he also served as Executive Producer.

In 2012, he founded ‘Glen Keane Productions’, collaborating with partners such as Google Spotlight Stories and the Paris Ballet. His short film “Dear Basketball”, created with Kobe Bryant and John Williams, won the 2018 Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film. He later directed “Over the Moon” (2020), produced with Netflix and Pearl Studio, earning an Academy Award nomination.

Glen Keane continues to inspire new generations of artists, remaining deeply devoted to the art of animation and drawing.
